Mosely

8/17/10- Mo grazing with his friends before leaving off to his forever home. Mo was adopted along with Cowboy to a Homeland Security Unit located in Louisville, KY. Mo & Cowboy will be mounted patrol/ search & rescue horses and are becoming a valuable part of a dedicated team. We couldn't be more pleased with their placement.

5/22/10- Mo getting prepped for the trail...and then some pics from our ride.

5/17/10 Pics-

5/14/10- Our Mo man is a fatso! We have cut his ration to just 2 #s of senior per day. He is loving life, enjoying our trail rides, and of course keeping his friend Feint company. I can not say enough wonderful things about this wonderful horse. he truly is a diamond in the rough.

3/24/10- All the seniors were placed in the front pasture today. Cowboy was kept with them instead of staying with the younger herd. Mo's got it under control!

2/26/10- Mo had a great time taking Mike for a spin today! For an old man...he's still got a lot of spunk!

1/10/10- Mo has come so far from the starved and skinny boy we took in! Never a smarter old chap has crossed through these gates! He is truly a pleasure to have here, we couldn't imagine the farm without him!

10/24/09- Mo was gracious enough to take me on a lovely fall ride through the trails this afternoon. He is ridden in a hackamore and I didn't touch those reins once! He is fantastic on trails and really enjoys his outings as well. He is now on a routine diet that maintains his weight easily with minimal effort. I couldn't say enough great things about Mo. He has it all! The looks, the personality, the training, the love to give.

8/25/09- Mo is famous! While flipping through the UAN Journal, look what I found!

8/15/09- Mo is now at ideal weight and is maintaining his condition with minimal effort. He has been ponied with beginners on trails, he has been ridden by intermediate as well as advanced riders. This guy has something to offer everyone! Below are pics of them coming up for their dinner...put the camera down & hurry up and feed us already!

7/20/09- Mo is all read for adoption and is on a meal plan that will support him at ideal weight. He has been doing well in lead line providing lessons to a 6 year old girl whom he loves! We hope to place Mo in an environment where he can continue to have such a rewarding bond.

6/30/09- Mo is almost to ideal weight and is currently 878 lbs! We have gradually cut back his rations, and should have him on a routine diet in another week. He is doing fantastic, and he has started his conditioning under saddle w/ child riders. Mo will be ready for adoption in July to the right home. This horse loves kids and we hope to adopt him out to a 4H family.

6-10-09- Mosely is doing great and has officially become a favorite with our child volunteers. He was kind enough to give them a spin around the pasture over the weekend and is very gentle and patient with them. He now weighs over 820 pounds and will be offered for adoption when his weight hits ideal, and his ration can be adjusted to maintenance only.

5/19/09- Mosley is doing great and has a new slick & shiny summer coat to show off! So far he has put on over 65 pounds during his stay and is right on track in his rehabilitation. He still has over 200 pounds to go...

4/29/09- Mo modeling his new rain slicker- he hates to be stall kept and this season in Kentucky is very rainy. Thanks Auntie Sandy! Mo has already gained over 20 pounds since his arrival in just a few short weeks!

4/22/09- Mo got his teeth worked on today, what's left of them anyhow! His mouth was a mess and he is missing quite a few teeth in the back. He will have to stay on mash for life... he doesn't mind! There was tarter buildup on his wolf teeth worse than any horse I have ever seen. Literally the size of eggs! Dawn gave us even more of a break than usual, so once again, thank you Dawn! And Thank you Fugly for getting us together! He is already feeling so much better, his energy level is up and he is beginning to shed out that nasty winter/ starvation coat. All his sores are closed and now we just need to get that hair growing back. Click below to see his dental chart.

Mo Dental Chart 4/22/09

4/14/09- A few updates on Mosely...he is doing great so far, is eating and drinking like a champ and seems to be growing stronger with each day. Blood work looks relatively good considering. We are seeing only slight elevation in liver enzymes, and to mine & Dr. King's surprise, they aren't nearly as bad as we expected. He has a slight protein deficiency. Both issues should correct themselves with proper care and nutrition. His first round of dental work will start next week. We will let everyone know how that goes. We have a wonderful equine dentist who found us through Fugly horse of the day blog that does all our rescue horses for half of her normal pricing.

A big thanks to Dawn Darnell!

INTAKE- Mosely is a 25+ year old, 15 hand sorrel gelding found abandoned on Mosely Drive in Ashland TN. He is severely emaciated and has obviously been neglected. His body is riddled with pressure sores form not having any muscle or fat to protect him when he lays down. He came home to the rescue Saturday 4/11/09 when the good people who found him brought him here for rehabilitation after no one had claimed him as missing and no horse rescues in TN would take him! Mosely is super sweet & very kind. He is eating steadily, his color, temp and vitals are currently good. He has received initial vet care with help in part by by UAN Lifeline Grants. A huge Thank You to their org for assisting in Mosely's time of need. We have pulled a full blood panel and are awaiting the results back. Mosely will also need extensive dental work done as well as repair to his front far hoof that is cracked. Mosely is in dire need of sponsors to help him though his rehabilitation period. He is over 300 lbs underweight and it will take several months before he will be able to gain all he needs. He will be receiving 4 meals of mash per day until we can get his teeth all straightened out. He will be offered for adoption once he is back to optimal health. I believe he will make a fine kids mount, or beginner horse when we get him where he needs to be. This will be a long haul for him. Please keep Mosely in your thoughts and prayers.
