Linda's Salty Lady
Adoption Fee- $400
4/23/11- Lady was adopted today by a wonder family in MO. We are very eager to watch her progress and hear about all the fun to come! Congrats lady and her new family!!!
3/28/11- Lady is doing fantastic! Last week was the first time since we have had her that she was saddled with no hysterics! We had her potential adopters come to ride her over the weekend and all went well. Today we took our first trail ride and Lady lived up to her name. What a good girl! She enjoyed it very much (other than crossing the creeks and water, which she did, but very scared and hesitantly) We had a blast jumping logs and fallen trees and I couldn't have asked for a nicer first ride off the farm. We are very proud of Lady and the progress she has made!
3/01/11- Lady has been doing great with ground work and loves her time on the lunge line. We have been working over poles and some small cross rails and she has really come around and settled into her work. She is much more relaxed and trusting, and her saddling issues are improving slowly. Lady needs consistent work with an experienced and patient handler. She enjoys learning new things and has been extremely responsive.

12/25/10- For the first time in the 8 years I have been here, we finally had a white X mas!
11/08/10- The vet was out over the weekend to assess Lady. He has determined there are no pain issues causing her incidents. He indicated he feels this is a behavioral issue and that we are on the right track with going back to square one and working with Lady to build her confidence and trust. We will be doing lots of ground work and perhaps try some bareback riding this winter. The girth seems to be the root of the problem here and we will be working with Lady at her pace to try and move past this problem.
10/25/10- After tacking up Lady a second time and her becoming quite out of control, we have decided that we are going back to square one with Lady. We will work on the basics during these fall and winter months, just like we would an un-started colt, in an attempt to unlearn whatever has caused this behavior. Learning to trust and respect her handlers and enjoy her one on one time is the goal. We have a vet appointment scheduled to evaluate for lameness or pain as a trigger. We will keep you posted!

10/09/10- Lady was saddled up today and boy did she have a fit! When I first tightened her girth, she laid down in the isle in my Stuben! Just stretched out and laid down. After getting her up, we walked around a bit and I tightened some more. Laid down again. By this time I'm extremely aggravated and we went straight out to lunge. After a bit on the line I climbed on and she was awesome! Has a great trot and very respectful and responsive. Does not like to stand still, but she's off the track and that is to be expected. She finally did stand and wait for everyone else to get their horses ready to ride. Our ring ride went so well we hit the trail and she was good for the most part out there too. I was really happy with how it all turned out considering the way it started!

9/27/10- Lady's wound has healed beautifully with the aid of Banixx Wound & Hoof Care spray. This is the only thing we have treated it with other than the initial cleanup with an iodine based scrub. Thank you Banixx for your donation! Lady's back is already feeling much better, and she has been making lots of friends.

9/19/10- Lady's wound is healing nicely and she has joined the herd this weekend. She is a very sweet girl who is thankfully fairly tolerant! She has some inflammation of the muscles in her back, probably due to being roughed up by the stud. We are treating that before riding evaluation is set. Here are some pics of her in the pasture.
INTAKE- 9/07/10- Linda's Salty Lady was relinquished to the rescue today by a farrier we know who was alerted that she was being sent to slaughter. Lady is a 5 year old registered Thoroughbred mare. She was raced, but came in dead last for every race she ran. The previous owners then tried to breed her, and when she wouldn't take, they were sending her to the kill buyer. Our farrier friend alerted us and we promptly made arrangements to bring her in. Lady has a nasty injury to her front pastern area, she scraped her leg while loading on the trailer. This should heal up just fine. She is quite beat up and we are assuming its form being turned out with a stud. Right now Lady is just settling in, and will be introduced to the herd after her quarantine period is over. Welcome Lady! http://www.pedigreequery.com/lindas+salty+lady
