Sweet Holli Brown
Holli Adoption Fee:
$900
![]()
(Above pics taken at Holli's previous home, not our rescue)
10/9- Sweet Holli Brown is a 5 year old registered Thoroughbred filly, who got kicked in the left front knee and sustained an auxiliary carpal fracture in June, after only racing twice. She has been on stall rest since then and is now cleared by the vet to be turned out and to enter into a new career. She is not o.k. to go back to racing & she also shouldn't be jumped. She should have no issues for flat work and trail rides. She is only 15 hands, so she would be perfect for a smaller person or a child once she is settled in and retrained for pleasure riding. She has a very sweet disposition, seems to be pretty mellow, and she is stunning to look at! She will be on turn out for the first bit of her stay here to get some much deserved freedom! Below are pics as she arrived.
10/13- Holli on her first turnout, what a good girl!
10/22- Holli is doing great and was ridden for the first time over the weekend. She is very quiet under saddle and very willing to please. She would be perfect for an intermediate rider. Her knee has given her no problems whatsoever.
11/6- Holli is doing wonderfully and has done excellent in every aspect. We see no lameness, she is fun to be around on the ground as well as astride. Holli is an awesome mare all the way around!
11/15 pics-
11/25 pics- Holli meets the herd-
1/02- Holli is doing great and enjoying her weekend rides. She is very well mannered and quiet under saddle and has performed wonderfully at walk/ trot for intermediate and beginner riders. She loves attention and loves to be ridden. She is definitely a people horse!
2/13- Finally some snow!!!
4/28- Spring has sprung and Holli is all set
for her forever home. We would like to see her adopted into a therapeutic
riding program or a riding environment involving children as she would excel in
those areas. This beautiful little bay filly is sweet, willing and ready to
please. This mare could touch so many lives and be a wonderful addition to any
farm or family.
Isn't she a doll?

Family Book
Booker Adoption Fee:
$500
![]()
10/9- Family Book is a 7 year old registered Thoroughbred gelding that is underweight & has arthritic ankles. Currently he is not sound, we will have the vet out for evaluation of his condition. We do see some swelling of the far front fetlock. We are hoping this will be a condition we can treat successfully to get him sound. He is 16+ hands, very sweet and a little shy. He is very kind natured and would be a great babysitter. He is a wonderful chocolate bay.
10/22- Booker is settled in and is very curious and friendly. We are still seeing lameness in that front fetlock and will start him on a joint supplement this week. We are hoping to overcome his lameness, as w/ his attitude, he would make a great riding partner.
11/6- Booker has improved on his ankle, we are seeing much less lameness. He will be adopted out as a light riding companion only. Meaning walk/trot with a light rider occasionally. He is such a sweet boy and has quite the personality. He will make someone a fine friend indeed. He gets along very well with other horses and we would love to see him adopted with Scarecrow if possible. Please contact me for adoption fees for the pair.
11/25 pics- Booker meets the herd-
1/02- Booker is gaining weight steadily and it shows! He is feeling better not only on his ankle, but emotionally as well. He is very active & playful and is just too fun to watch when outside with his friends! he is a very friendly and curious horse and has a very playful attitude & demeanor.
2/13- Playtime in the snow!!!
4/28- Our handsome boy is a hit w/ the ladies! Booker has one of the brightest and most outgoing personalities I have ever seen. This horse is ALWAYS happy & cheerful, he brightens everyone's day & gets along great with everyone. He is very curious and extremely friendly & playful! He will forever be young at heart & would make a great companion for any horse.
Who could deny that face?

Ol' Scarecrow
Scarecrow Adoption Fee:
$900
![]()
10/9- Ol' Scarecrow is a 6 year old registered Thoroughbred gelding who had knee surgery as a 2 year old to correct a track injury. We were told he was not given the proper time to heal on that knee, resulting in a joint that is slightly larger than the other, but we see no signs of swelling or lameness. He has a couple cuts on his head, one above the right eye and one on the right side of his face above the noseband. These are not serious, and should heal up just fine with no scarring. We were also told he has a pulled muscle in his upper hind end, but upon receiving him, we noticed a pretty big scar at the left side croup area. The vet will be evaluating this as well. This is a BIG 16+ hand horse who is a dark bay w/ no white markings. He is in good weight, is kind and sensible and should make a fine mount when rehabilitated.
10/22- Scarecrow is adjusting wonderfully to his new home and was ridden for the first time over the weekend. He did well, he is a bit difficult to bridle and will need an experienced rider. We will be providing him with further training along his stay. He has shown no signs of lameness on his knee, nor his hind end.
11/6- Scarecrow is a doing well, he is a bit of a nervous Nelly and needs someone who is quiet and patient. He takes a while to warm up to people, but once he does, he is an angel! He has had no problems with any sort of lameness and he gets along very well with other horses and we would love to see him adopted with Booker if possible. Please contact me for adoption fees for the pair.
11/25 pics- Scarecrow meets the herd-
1/02- Scarecrow is steadily coming out of his shell and warming up to everyone here at the rescue. He is a gentle and easy going boy, easy to work with and easy to keep. He is doing well under saddle, he has some issues w/ bridling that we have been working on.
2/13- the snow is finally here!
4/28- This horse is a looker & he knows it! He is so full of life and has a beautiful way of going. This is a very loyal horse and is extremely attentive. He is very well behaved under saddle and just needs a rider who is experienced and confident. He would make someone a great life long partner.

Lily
Adoption Fee: $475
7/5- Lily is a young mare approximately 4, who was dropped off at our new facility while I was out of town. We did not know she would be coming, and when we discovered her there, we don't know how long she had been without proper care. She is malnourished & underweight, her feet are in terrible shape & she has a horrific wound to the back of her right foreleg that was exposed to the elements and flies and was severely infected & rotten when I found her. We since have it cleaned up & are treating her with anti-inflammatory as well as antibiotic. Her healing process will be a slow one, but we expect her to make a good recovery. She is a darling & sweet little mare despite all she has endured.
7/23- Lily is doing wonderfully, she loves her new home and her leg injury is healing nicely. She has put on some weight already and her coat has begun to shine. Here is a picture from today.

8/2- Below are pics from after Lily's bath, they didn't turn out very well for some reason, but I wanted to show everyone she cleans up nicely!
9/7- Lily is doing great and is almost all healed up. She has put on almost all she needs to bring her up to ideal weight. She will begin her training next month when her leg is completely healed.
9/15- A pic of Lily with all her scrapes greased up.
10/22- Lily is doing wonderfully in her ground training and is getting used to her saddle and bridle under longe and long lines. Her leg has almost completely healed and she shows no signs of favoring it. We will progress with her saddle training accordingly.
2/13- Lily in the snow
3/01- Lily's leg was very swollen and hot, we have poulticed and called the vet out for examination. 3/10-Her wound has opened and started to drain, she has a fever and her digestive tract is upset. The vet seems to believe the poultice aggravated her leg. We have her inside and receiving banamine & antibiotics. 3/25- Lily is doing better, she has gotten over her fever & swelling. Her digestive tract is back to normal, this was hard on her. We are pumping vitamins & extra feed into her to improve her condition.
4/24- Lily is back to her sweet self again and her wound is slowing closing and we have resumed her saddle training.
4/28- Aren't I cute?

Jewell & Feint

Feint (grey) & Jewell (bay) both senior retired off track TBs. They are in our retirement program & will be with us for life. They are not available for adoption.
Feint has numerous melanomas and tumors that have to be closely monitored, as in the past they have affected his ability to swallow as well as breathe. He lost a considerable amount of weight as we could not feed him forage for a number of months. He has gained over 70lbs this year & is well on his way to his ideal weight. He also had a very serious injury to his hind leg when he fell into an oil well shaft last year. He has recovered nicely! He was originally trained as a dressage horse, but his shallow front hooves could not take the work and it was thought he had developed navicular disease. We have since ruled this out & with the proper barefoot trimming he is now perfectly sound.
11/6- Feint is having a difficult time with his tumors as he is not able to swallow hay thus causing him to choke. We have had a hard time keeping his weight on and we are hoping with his new diet we can add the extra pounds and prolong his precious life. This is a horse who has overcome so much already and has such a big heart and so much love to share. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
2/13- Feint in the snow
3/10- We have pulled blood today to run further tests on Feint. He is still not gaining weight, and I as well as the vet think his cancer is getting the best of him. We are going to do everything possible to help him get better, we know that getting him through the cold weather and into into the grazing season again will help him tremendously. Please keep him in your prayers!
Jewell was purchase by my family for me when I was just 12 years old. She has remarkable bloodlines, but was unwanted due to the fact she was too old to race, and could not be bred due to an unusually small uterus. She was (and still is at times) very high strung and was deemed unfit to be retrained. I worked closely with my trainer and together Jewell & I went on to compete in hunter/jumper competitions all through my juvenile years. Jewell is the horse that started it all! Just goes to show that with a little patience & understanding, any horse can succeed. She has been an inspiration and a sister to me almost all my life. I don't know what I'd do without her.
11/6- Jewell is doing great at almost 22 years young and is enjoying the bluegrass with her friends.
2/13- Jewell in the snow

Iri

You may recognize this guy from the top of all our pages- This is Iri (meaning fire & light) our first nurse mare foal we rescued last year. Since then, we have gone on to help over 20 of these orphans! He is 1 now (3/31) and we just couldn't part with him if we tried! He is a lifer as well. He has taught us so much & has been a truly rewarding gift from above. Everyone who comes across his path is pulled in by his sweet personality & delightful charm.
*All pictures on the slideshow that are inside the barn were taken before Iri was brought to our rescue*
4/22- Iri is 1 now & he is such a pleasure to have around! He has been working on ground driving and practicing his voice commands while lungeing. I have some current pics of him right after his bath; and then he rolled of course; but he was some what clean!
8/20- Below is a picture taken today of Iri in the front pasture, as well as one of him & Feint w/ the herd in the back round
11/6- Iri is doing great, proving everyone wrong who doubts that orphan foals can grow, learn & progress the way "normal" foals do.

Galahad
This spotted QH colt is about 3 months old and has limb deformities as well as umbilical hernia. We were told that he was "very sick" upon him being pulled from his dam, and he was treated aggressively with antibiotics and vitamins for 10 days. Upon getting him home we realized he has a limb deformity in his forelegs and hind legs. He has contracted tendons and we have wrapped his forelegs & splinted his hind for support. He is gorgeous as can be and we just have to keep him wrapped up tightly to see if he will straighten out. He is just as sweet as can be and just as trusting. 6/22- Galahad's front has improved tremendously! He is much more coordinated and stable on his feet now. His rear is improving, but it is slower than the front. We are still seeing some knuckling at the fetlock. 7/22- Galahad is a lot more coordinated now and is moving around better on those legs. We have been wrapping his legs on & off, letting them breath to prevent sores from the bandages. He has an umbilical hernia that we have been wrapping to see if it will mend with out surgery. It has not made much of an improvement, and we will need to have the surgery performed as soon as the weather cools a bit. 8/16- Galahad is all settled into his new home and loves his luxury suite! he has a 30 foot stall which walks out to his very own pen to play in outside. He has made friends with Doc, our senior horse and they enjoy keeping each other company at night and turnout together in the afternoons. We have been trimming Galahad's hooves every 2-3 weeks to promote a more balanced and healthy conformation in those legs. He is getting around great as you can see from his pictures below!
9/7- Galahad is scheduled for his hernia surgery September 19th. His legs will also be evaluated again and he may receive special shoes to help him up off his heels. we will keep you posted! 9/19- Galahad came through his surgery w/ flying colors and will come home in the morning. He has stitches that will have to be removed in 10 days, but is expected to make a speedy recovery. 9/25- Galahad is doing great and feeling much better. He still has some swelling on his abdominal wall, but nothing to be concerned about, its to be expected. Below are pics from tonight.
10/9- Our little guy is doing great and very relieved he gets to play again!
11/6- Galahad is growing like a weed and those legs are doing wonderfully. He is almost at the angle he should be and should grow up to be a normal healthy horse! He is weaned off his milk completely and is thriving on his new diet.
11/15 Pics-
12/29- Galahad got to meet his new friends (the weanling fillies) over the weekend. He was very excited, though they were unsure they felt the same way! Below are some pics-
3/1- Galahad pics- look how straight those legs are!
3/8- Galahad snow pics
4/28- Galahad got his first turn out in the sprinkles today. Needless to say, he was none too thrilled with the experience! He was trotting around the front gate looking at me like "Excuse me, we know I don't go out in this" Too cute!
*Galahad would like to thank Kenny & Brittney for their kindness & generosity- they have sponsored much needed items for them. * They also would like to thank Dr. Woodie from Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for his time and consideration* Galahad also wants to thank Jennifer for his noble name, his lovely card and helping to support his needs*
