This Cat Can Fly

Adoption Fee: $800

ADOPTED

5/31/11- Cat has been adopted by a local family with her very own little girl to love her! We are proud for Cat and her new family and are looking forward to pictures and tales of their new adventures together.

4/17/11- Cat went for her first river ride today and did excellent! With all the rain we weren't able to actually cross the river, but we did a lot of creeks and puddles and hills and woods. She enjoyed it very much! She doesn't like to lead and is very content following. She was of course her laid back lazy self with no dramatics and/ or surprises. She is a good quiet mount and was a pleasure to ride!

3/06/11- Cat is now home from training and ready for adoption. Here is the report from the trainer: Cat has done well. I have had different people ride her and she has done well. She stands nice to mount, walks and trots well...can even get some stretching in the trot with a rider with good hands. I have been working her on the ground before I ride to get her relaxed. She knows how to flex vertically and laterally from the ground and saddle. she can yield her hind quarters from the ground and saddle. She can be lazy but that is fine (meaning she needs a bit of leg).. she will have no problem being a kids or beginner (one with a little experience) horse with a few more months of riding. She is not pushy and will move off your leg and stop from your seat. She still fidgets a little with the bit but that will go away. I have ridden her english with a snaffle bit. She has gone off lame in the leg, periodically, so that will need to be watched. I would say someone could ride her with a loose or moderate rein contact pretty well. If you have really good hands you could ask her to stretch and come into contact. We have cantered on the lunge. She will need more work in the canter but we did not push her due to the leg. We only did short (couple strides) then back to trot in a controlled environment. We plan on riding her on the trails and will have some pictures form those adventures up soon!

1/06/11- Cat is doing wonderfully in training and we have glowing reports on both her progress and her soundness. She will remaining up there for at least another 30 days. Please enjoy some video of her being worked-

12/05/10- Cat left for professional training today with Rodden Equine in Louisville, KY. We are super excited about trying out Rodden and seeing how Cat will come along. So far we have agreed to start her at 60 days professional training. We will see how that goes and keep everyone informed!

11/19/10- We are excited to announce that we have found a wonderful trainer in Louisville who will be re-schooling Cat! Cat leaves in December for her new career and we will keep her there 60 days minimum. A huge THANK YOU goes out to Rebecca Rodden. We look forward to this new partnership and hope its successful and long lasting!

11/08/10- The vet came out this weekend to examine and x-ray Cat. The fetlock injury is completely unnoticeable both under flexion and on film. The coffin bone however looks to our vet like there has been minimal adhesion at the break. Meaning, he feels they should have put a screw into that bone to pull it together to heal when it happened. She is not unsound in it however and he advised she wears and eggbar shoe with clips when ridden. He feels there shouldn't be a problem with minimal flat work/ soundness. We will be getting the vet and farrier together this weekend to get her shod correctly and start her re-schooling under saddle. Her x rays will be posted shortly.

10/21/10- Cat was ridden today and she will definitely need some work. She was very good if we were pointed towards the barn, and away she would balk. Being that this was her first riding session, I did not want it to be an argument. Cat does seem to be a bit on the lazy side, but she does have a great trot! I'm looking forward to her progress.

10/9/10- Cat was ridden today and she was very quiet and laid back. She was a bit off so we didn't do too much, just some walking, stopping, tuning exercises. So far so good! I'm excited to start her re-schooling, she has a great mind and disposition.

9/19/10- Some pics of Cat enjoying pasture time.

9/14/10- Cat is adjusting well and is a super nice, well built TB whom we are thrilled to have thus far. Here is a pic taken by one of our volunteers of me & cat playing in the hose. Busted!

8/19/10- Cat had her shoes pulled today, so was allowed to meet the herd. She is a smart girl who was more interested in checking out her surroundings than meeting her new friends! Here are pics of her first turn out.

INTAKE- 8/19/10- This Cat Can Fly is a much loved & well cared for bay 4 year old Thoroughbred filly. She was trained and raced briefly by her loving owner, but Cat came up unsound in December of 2009 due to a coffin bone injury on her far front, then a stress fracture in her right front pastern February 2009. Cat was given the time off she needed, but was not running well, and the decision was made to allow her to remain sound and find a new career. Unfortunately, her owner/ trainer had a unrelated galloping accident resulting in severe facial injuries. We were contacted and agreed to take Cat. She is a very well behaved, sweet and gorgeous girl who is just now adjusting to her new life at the rescue. She will remain in rehab until her previous x rays can be obtained and gone over by our vets, and we can evaluate her thoroughly. Welcome Cat! http://www.pedigreequery.com/this+cat+can+fly
