Little John
5/7/11-I just wanted
to touch base with you and show you a few pics of Chip (new show name is back to
"Chosen by Chance"). He is doing great and getting big! He is looking a lot more
grown up every day. He is getting along well with his group of horses. He LOVES
trying to stir everyone up to play with him as any little kid would do. :o) He
has been doing great with the farrier and also the vet. Our equine dentist will
be here in June to look at his teeth. He has also already met our equine
chiropractor that is helping make sure everything grows in-line.
I'll have him worked on one or two more times this year until he gets ridden. My
horse Chance gets adjusted every 3 months or so now.
We are mainly working on ground manners right now. I have a Monty Robert's
equine university account, so I will be following some of his lessons as we go
along with the basics. I think he will take to anything quickly.
I look forward to updating you again soon. Hope all is well at the rescue.

10/3/10- Little John was adopted today by a wonderful young lady who has big plans for him in the show ring. His new name is going to be "Chip" and his show name will be "Second Chance." He is a big hit at the new barn. We couldn't be more thrilled!
Congrats LJ & Jennifer! Here is a pic of him meeting his new "brother"

8/25/10- Pics of LJ before breakfast- what a handsome guy!

8/7/10- Little John is now a proud member of the front pasture herd. He is kind of a loner, and tries to stay out of everyone's way, except for his Jammy of course. He grows sweeter and fonder everyday and really is the most amazing colt. He loves children and attention and is one of the most affectionate and respectful yearlings that I've ever had the pleasure to know.
7/10/10- Little John is thriving and we can't say enough good things about this colt! He is a pleasure to have and work with and is the most "teddy bear" little guy we have ever rehabbed. Here are pics from bath time as well as his after bath romp!

6/7/10- Little John has been stalled for a few weeks after a crash in pasture which left him with some hind end lameness. He is now cleared and going out full time all by himself in the quarantine pen. He gets along great alone and it has actually seemed to focus his attention more to us and his ground training. He has become super sweet and affectionate and is an in your pocket kind of guy who thrives on interaction and attention. He tries very hard to please and is super smart and quiet for his age.

5/17/10 Pics-

5/14/10- Little John is a fantastic guy! he now stands at 14.2 hands. We have finally got every bit of that old matted fur from him, and his skin has cleared completely with a slick shiny new cost coming though. LJ is super friendly and though a bit flighty, is very laid back and attentive for his age and breeding. He is now on a maintenance ration of Southern States Solutions, and he and Bo were placed in the younger herd last weekend. They are still very attached to one another, and are still being separated and stalled at night. This yearling is a pleasure to work with, he loves attention and is super affectionate. LJ is a show horse prospect in the making!
4/13/10- Little John was gelded today and was a very good little patient. Dr. King was impressed with his recovery and with Bo's as well. Below are pics after LJ's first bath. He liked bath time! He is now worm free, gelded and vaccinated. He is at ideal weight and we will be slowly weaning him onto a maintenance diet. Little John and Bo will remain together for another few weeks and then LJ will meet the young herd and Bo the seniors. Little John is now available for adoption.

3/24/10- Little John is feeling his age now! He is coming along nicely and is standing well tied for his skin treatments. He is very sensitive and does not appreciate his belly being brushed though. His feet will be done tomorrow, probably for the first time in his life! He now weighs in at 510 pounds. We would have liked to see a bit more weight gain in the first month of rehab, but due to his sickness, we are lucky to get the pounds he did gain. We believe that he has probably added more weight than what shows, because as he sheds his heavy parasite load, that bloated worm belly shrinks. We are hoping to be able to geld him the end of next month. Click above for pics of LJ having a ball!
2/26/10- Blood work has come back relatively normal for LJ. He is carrying a heavy parasite load, we started a Panacur Powerpac on Wednesday. He is receiving the last of his antibiotics today. LJ weighs in at 485 pounds. He is eating like a champ and and has much higher energy now. He is much less congested and his snotty nose has cleared up. Well on his way to recovery! Pic of him in his new blanket...thank you Auntie De!

2/22/10- We got Little John cleaned and treated for
his rain rot. The shelter is up and both horses enjoy it! They are now eating
beet pulp and alfalfa pellets along with their hay. At the end of the week, we
will start incorporating Triple Crown Growth to their ration. So far LJ is
responding well to treatment. We are still awaiting lab results and we will go
from there.
INTAKE- 2/17/10- Little John (and his friend Bo) has been relinquished to the rescue by concerned citizens who have been desperately trying to get the horses help instead of watching them starve. They were able to talk the owner into giving them custody & got in touch with us to bring them in. He is very friendly and curious and thankfully isn't in as bad of condition as Bo. John is just a yearling. He is quite small for a TB, probably stunted due to poor nutrition. He is a TB stud colt and does not have a tattoo number, we don't believe him to be registered. We can not geld until he is rehabilitated and the weather breaks. He has an upper respiratory infection, he is having difficulty breathing his lungs have mucus, severe rain rot (not as bad as Bo's), he is emaciated. Due to his long coat, its hard to see in the pictures just how bad he really is. The vet has pulled blood for panels and left us several antibiotics. We will keep you posted.
Donations are needed to offset the costs of his rehabilitation. He is going to need months of careful re-feeding and vet care, as well as gelding. Temporary shelter is needed for his quarantine and can be purchased for under $200.00 at TSC. Please consider a donation to help him heal.
