King David's Son

Adoption Fee: $600

5/31/11- King did fantastic for his first trail ride of the farm! We rode him in western tack with loaded saddle bags- no problem at all. We did open fields, woods, creeks, hills, road crossing and he was a champ! We will be riding him off the farm alone to evaluate further- stay tuned!

3/3/11- King had his riding evaluation today and did wonderfully! He stood quietly for mounting, was very relaxed, has a great ground covering trot and is very responsive to his rider. King will need slow conditioning to build the muscle back along his top line. We are still adding a bit of extra fat calories to his ration as well as feeding alfalfa mix hay. He is now available for adoption! He will require an intermediate to advanced rider.

12/25/10- For the first time in the 8 years I have been here, we finally had a white X mas! King is doing great and has been introduced to the gelding herd. He will be ready for re-schooling shortly and is now slowly being backed off his ration to a maintenance level.

10/27/10- King is doing fantastic and now weighs in at 985 pounds. He still lacks muscle along his topline, but that will take a few more months to rebuild. We are finally getting that stubborn dew poisoning cleared up with sulfur meds, wrapping and topical antimicrobials. He has enjoyed his time with the mares, but soon he will be introduced to the gelding herd. Thats sure to build muscle...they are a rough and tumble bunch!

9/27/10- Fall has finally arrived at the rescue, and King got to sport his new rain coat! Lady thought it was a bit scary- but King was very thankful for it indeed! Thank you Sandy for your contribution:)

9/19/10- King is steadily improving and has gained close to 100 pounds. He is being stalled at night to help prevent him from becoming herd sour. At this rate he should be eligible for adoption come November.

September Developments- While researching and tracing back King's history trying to find the source of his neglect, we stumbled upon evidence that King was probably NOT abandoned at the local location as we were originally told. This Clifty Creek Rd. Jamestown, KY location claims to be a rescue, but in fact is the cause of King's neglect, whether direct or indirect. Here is a screen shot of the evidence I found on facebook showing King at their location in 2008-

Also the picture of him 2009 showing loss of condition pulled from their website- http://www.sabrinaequinerescue.ueuo.com

Clearly he did not just "show up in her yard" in August 2010 like we were told. We have contacted the attorney general's office regarding fraudulent fundraising, as well as the Russell County Sheriff's office regarding the neglect of this horse, and a mare and weanling still on the property. We have contacted every internet site we have found listing them as a rescue and asked that their name be removed from the sites. We ask that people please DO NOT send horses to Sabrina or James Fetty or send items/ money to Sabrina's Equine Rescue. They are NOT a rescue, they are NOT registered with the state to solicit donations, they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if we get our way. If you or someone you know resides in Russell County KY, please email us if you too would like to stand up and be a voice for King, and all the other unfortunate animals that could be neglected at the hands of these faux rescuers. Please people be diligent when deciding to support a alleged rescue. Call local vets, call feed stores, if they do not have a Federal tax exempt status, at the very least call the state to verify if they are registered to solicit donations in that state. Go out and visit for yourself before ever considering surrendering a horse or making a contribution. Please take a moment to read this article- how to tell if a rescue is legit

Your due diligence can help save a life!

8/24/10- King got his teeth done today and that will go a long way in restoring him to his former glory. He enjoys going out in the front pasture for a few hours a day now, and he is feeling much better already.

8/16/10- After lots of searching, calling and emailing, we have determined that King was raced extensively by The Ramsey Farm here in KY. They were contacted and have agreed to help King through his rehabilitation by making a one time donation of $500.00 towards the costs of his care. Thank you Ramsey Farm for stepping up to do the right thing for such a royally bred horse!

King was claimed at the end of his career by a trainer who ran him twice and told his new owner his feet hurt too bad to race any further. The owner told the trainer he would be "turned out". We are currently working with animal control and the sheriff's department to get to the bottom of what happened to this proud boy. Here are pics of him in his glory days- http://www.racehorsephoto.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=t-2-2004-10-27-8-1

It will be several months before he looks comparable, but at least he ended up with us before it was too late. Currently King weighs in at 850 pounds (about 300 pounds underweight) and stands 16.1 hands. He is eating like a champ and once he is able to travel, will be going to the clinic for x-rays of those front feet. They are sore and are in pretty bad shape. Lots of cracks and no heels. Hopefully we can get him sound enough to start a second career. Blood work came back all within normal range, so there is no underlying condition that caused King's emaciation. He was starved plain and simple.

8/11/10- TRPF confirmed his ID.

"It looks like his name is “KING DAVID’S SON”, foal date 2/17/01, sire “King of Kings” and dam “Sizzlin Sunshine” http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbHorseInfo.cfm?refno=6102041&registry=T

8/11/10- Thanks to Lisa A.- We think we have an ID on him!  Sure sounds like him and we are awaiting confirmation.

King David's Son-  E05550 - 2001 KY bred gelding

Registration description at time of application:

Large horizontal star and connected wide stripe, becoming bordered flesh colored and extending to right on bridge of nose, covering right nostril, into left nostril, ending on upper lip on bottom. Left fore: three-quarters stocking, lower on outside. Left hind: half stocking, lower in back. Right hind: white to above ankle, higher on inside in front. Median cowlick in star.

INTAKE- 8/7/10- This emaciated Thoroughbred gelding was brought into the rescue today after being abandoned locally. We have not yet identified him. Anyone who can help to read and research his tattoo, your assistance is greatly appreciated. He has very distinct facial markings, hopefully that will help. As you can see, he is only a 1 on the scale and in extremely poor condition. His front feet are sore, he has rain rot, and someone has bobbed his tail making him susceptible to biting insects. We are awaiting blood work and are re-feeding him slowly. He has already been bathed with antifungal shampoo and a cut to his inner thigh tended to.
