Here at MVR, our goal is to best pair each horse with each willing foster/ adopter. To ensure successful placements of our equines, we strive to know as much as possible about your experience, your farm, and your needs in a horse. Below you will find the process of  fostering or adoption through our facility outlined for your review.

Application Process- You will find our application to be 5 pages. Some may think this is excessive, but this process helps to determine your level of suitability with our current horses. We also have lists of horses waiting for intake, as well as lists we are networking to help place into suitable homes. Without knowing your history, your environment, and your hopes for you new equine friend, we do not have the knowledge necessary to make a determination if one or more of these horses will work for you and your situation. Fees charged for application processing allow MVR to make the necessary calls, reference checks and follow up needed to thoroughly review your application. The application for foster or adoption is the same. Please circle which one you are interested in providing at the top of the page.

Meet & Greet- Upon approval of your application to adopt, we require at least one visit to the rescue and the horses you are interested in adopting. Adoptions will not be approved to individuals not willing to interact with the horses they are applying to adopt. Horses are individuals and have personalities and preferences all their own. While we strive to make every effort possible to accurately describe each of our residents, we feel that what we interpret regarding each horse is certainly not what you may or may not interpret. This part of the process ensures us that the pairing will indeed be a good match between horse and adopter. Meet & Greet is by appointment only.

Adoption Fees-  All adoption fees are $400.00 per horse, unless otherwise noted. Professional training is expensive and increases adoption fees. Some horses may not be rideable and we try our best to discount fees for companion only horses. If you adopt more than one horse, your fees are discounted by 25%. We encourage the adoption of 2 or more horses if you have no other companion animals already at home. Horses are herd animals and typically do not like to be kept alone. We are striving to keep the fees above the market per pound price, but affordable as well. Typically rehab expenses are very costly (at least 2-10x the fee) and adoption fees help put money back into the program, which allows us to be able to help another horse in need. Once you have been approved, you have met your horse, and you have made the decision to proceed with adoption, we require a 25% deposit to hold your horse. All adoption fees must be paid in full prior to the horse leaving the rescue. Please see Adoption Contract for more details.

Adoption Contract- Our contract is 2 pages and is what we feel the adequate protection our horses deserve. It has 12 specific stipulations the adopter agrees to adhere to. We will not adopt out any horses without this contract in place. Please make yourself familiar with these specific stipulations, and be comfortable in the fact that you can adhere to them before signing. It is important that our horses are protected. We go to great lengths to ensure our horses are fully rehabilitated, happy and healthy when they leave this farm. We expect them to stay that way.  If you feel this contract is not for you, please look at other rescues for your new horse. Each rescue has their own way of protecting their equines, you just need to find one that works for you.

Permanent Ownership- After a one year probation period a permanent ownership paper will be available to eligible adopters. We expect all adopters to keep their horses for life. We do however understand life has a way of changing a person's plans. Adopters must contact MVR in writing to request registration papers on their adopted horses. Papers (if available) will only be forwarded after 1 year, when your Ownership Agreement is on file.

Foster Agreement-  Persons who have been pre-approved can foster animals for MVR in their home/ stable until a new permanent adoptive home can be found. While being cared for they are expected to be trained and socialized and by fostering a horse you help create room for another in need to come to MVR. You get the enjoyment of that horse's companionship and love. Its a win win situation. Expenses incurred while maintaining a foster animal ARE tax deductible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We welcome your dialog and suggestions. Our goal is to place many deserving equines into caring, loving, forever homes. This is only possible with your help!
