Welcome to
Mountain View Rescue!
Our farm is located in beautiful south central Kentucky. We are blessed with wonderful people as well as surroundings, and have come together to save as many lives as we can. We are dedicated to the one goal at hand...
To rehabilitate, re-school & re-home unwanted, neglected, mistreated & misunderstood equines. To place them in permanent, loving, "forever” homes. We understand the commitment it takes to be a good horse "owner". Anyone can buy or even be given a "free" horse, but unfortunately not so many intend to be his life long partner. Here at Mountain View Rescue, all our horses are assured they will never be forgotten.

We strive to eliminate the suffering and senseless slaughter of our beloved equines one horse at a time. From off track Thoroughbreds to orphan foals from nurse mare farms, we offer an environment for growth and learning and hand select adoptive homes to which each horse will be best paired with each wiling adopter. If you or someone you know may be interested in adopting or fostering one of our horses, please download, fill out and return to us our adoption form & contract.
Please be advised that we adopt to pre-approved homes only. See our adoption form and contract for more information.
Please join us in taking action against the rising cases of equine abuse & neglect. Don't be afraid to speak out for the horses, as we are their only voices. If you know of an animal that is being abused or mistreated, contact your local authorities, animal shelter, or rescue!
“A
human being is part of a whole called by us “the Universe.” A part limited in
time and space. We experience our selves, our thoughts, and feelings, as
something separate from the rest, - a kind of optical delusion of our
consciousness. This delusion is a prison for us, restricting us to our personal
desires, and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to
free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of understanding and
compassion. To embrace all living creatures in the whole of nature and it’s
beauty.”

A Little About Me:
My name Raquel and I am Incorporator, President & director of Mountain View Rescue. I am originally from Northern Illinois, just outside of Chicago. I moved to Kentucky in the Summer of 2002 to have more room for my animals & to get back to my roots. My family is originally from eastern Kentucky and since I was a young girl I had often dreamed of living in this beautiful state, the horse capital of the world.
I started riding at age 7, taking professional lessons in hunter/ jumper until the age of 13. By this time I was already turning race horses into show mounts! I rode competitively in hunter/jumper through my teen years, at which point I began learning the art of dressage and natural horsemanship. In my late teen years I was fortunate enough to work under a wonderful trainer specializing in fine harness horses. I had the privilege of driving not only Arabians, but American Saddlebreds, National Showhorses and my beloved Hackney Ponies. I spent a brief time with the magical Lippizans in Illinois before moving here to Kentucky.
I personally have been saving animals all my life- I have always tried to come to the aid of any animal in need. Over the years I have taken in countless stray dogs, cats & rescued or re-schooled & placed numerous horses who were sick, or mistreated, or thought to be "un-safe or un-trainable". This work takes a great deal of patience and understanding, it is not for everyone. I have had my share of hard times and heartache with animals that could not be saved.
This has always been my passion and will continue to be a big part of my life for many years to come. I am blessed to have a wonderful family who share my responsibilities as directors, and are very supportive of my efforts. To them I would like to say thank you. So many people; strangers & friends alike, have come together to help make Mountain View Rescue possible.
Since opening our doors in the spring of last year, we have gone on to successfully save and place over 50 horses & foals through our efforts. We have also placed 8 cats, 5 puppies and 3 adult dogs. Operating on just what my salary can spare and donations from caring individuals, this has been a phenomenal success!
Please accept our invitation to learn more about our rescue, our horses and all the equine related information you will find here in our website.
Thank You, Raquel
